Our heritage here at the farm goes back six generations...

It all started back around the 1860's, when Henry McGlasson and family moved west from Virginia and settled in the Ohio River Valley on the land that is now our farm.  A small log cabin was constructed out of timbers hewn from the woods on our land, and here was born the early beginnings of the McGlasson farm as we know it today.  Back then, the farm was much larger than it is today and encompassed much of the entire bottomlands of our little slice of the river valley.  Our farm is particularly blessed that it sits well above the floodplain of the Ohio River while also having excellent soils and a relatively flat topography.  Over the years parts of the farm were transfered to different family members, but the heart of the farm remains intact.  The original log cabin survives even today as part of the home of farm elders Rodney & Jean McGlasson, who have lovingly maintained our family heritage for future generations to enjoy.

For many years the family operated as 'sustenance' farmers, supporting themselves by growing a variety of crops & livestock for their own uses throughout the years.  But by the early 20th century, the family found themselves taking their produce and livestock into many of the various markets in town in Cincinnati.  Over the years, the farm came to focus more and more on growing fruits and vegetables to take to the downtown markets by truck.  For years these markets in Cincinnati were the mainstay for life on the farm, and helped to establish our focus on selling fresh fruits and vegetables via retail markets.

Sometime during the 1960's, the family decided to open a roadside stand on the farm along Ky. Route 8, also know as River Road.  While we continued to go to the Cincinnati markets every day, they found that there was a more local demand for fresh fruits & vegetables in our own neck of the woods too.  Not only did the stand attract local customers, but also a whole legion of devoted 'out-of-towners' from across the river and other cities nearby that were willing to make the drive into the country for their favorite produce.  It was these long-established relationships with loyal customers that helped to carry us along over the years and undoubtedly into the future as well.

More recently, we have put more focus into building up our roadside farm market and relying less upon the traditional truck markets we frequented in the past.  Business has been better than ever down at the stand, and we attribute all of that success to the undying support of our local regulars and also the new folks who are just now discovering how close they are to fresh local home-grown produce in their own backyards so-to-speak.  If you haven't been down to the stand before, feel free to stop in on a whim and we'll be more than happy to answer any of your questions.  We've been carrying on the family tradition here for six generations plus, and to be honest we couldn't be happier doing anything but!  With any hope, we'll make it another six generations to come...
